Egg Donation

Day of Retrieval

Pre-Procedure Instructions

  • Have nothing to eat or drink after 12 midnight on the night before retrieval.
  • Wear loose comfortable clothing to the hospital.
  • Do not wear or bring any jewelry or valuables to the hospital.
  • Remove contact lenses and any removable dental apparatus.
  • Make sure you have arranged for someone to pick you up from the hospital.

On The Day Of Retrieval

The 68th Street entrance.
Turn right to the admitting office.
 Here you are!

  • Report to the Admitting Office (Located just inside and to the right of the main entrance of NewYork-Presbyterian Weill Cornell Hospital, 525 East 68th Street), at exactly the time specified.
  • A member of the donor egg team will have given you a letter (on bright pink paper) to be presented to the Admitting Office staff explaining that you are a patient of the In Vitro Program and a VIP. Please indicate to the Admitting Staff that Dr. Rosenwaks is your
    doctor – he is the medical director of the IVF program.
  • After you have completed the necessary paperwork in the Admitting Office, one of the IVF staff members will pick you up and escort you to the IVF area.
Please do not leave the admitting office. An IVF staff member will come find you there and escort you to the procedure room.

IVF Suite

  • You will meet the IVF attending, nurses, and anesthesiologist.
  • An IV will be started for sedation and a dose of IV antibiotics will be given during the procedure.

Post Procedure

  • Cramping, spotting and slight swelling is common following the procedure.
  • You may use Tylenol or Extra-Strength Tylenol for post-operative discomfort.
  • You must rest at home for 24 hours following the procedure.
  • Refrain from strenuous activity, exercise, intercourse and tub baths for 2 weeks following the procedure, until after your next period.
  • Call (646) 962-2764 if you have difficulty urinating, pain, heavy bleeding or fever, or if you have any questions.
  • Someone from the donor egg team will call the following morning to see how you are feeling and answer any questions you may have.

Important Notes

  • You must have an adult escort to discharge you and accompany you home the day of the procedure. A separate sheet of instructions (blue) has been given for your escort.
  • Please contact a member of the donor egg team to arrange for pick-up or mailing of your compensation check.
