Ovidrel or Lupron Trigger

Ovidrel or Lupron triggers ovulation. You must give yourself the injection at exactly the time we tell you. Too early or too late, by even 10 or 15 mintues, could compromise the whole cycle.

Your Guide to the Administration of Ovidrel or Lupron Trigger

Getting Ready

Make sure you have all the necessary items listed below before you begin:
  • Alcohol wipes
  • Biohazard/safety container for used syringes/needles
  • 1 Ovidrel Prefilled Syringe 250 ug/0.5 ml or 1 Lupron prefilled syringe
Be sure to wash hands thoroughly with soap and water. Place materials on a clean, dry surface. To prevent possible contamination, do not touch the needle or allow the needle to touch any surface.

Administering the Injection

  • Remove prefilled syringe from clear plastic container and place it on flat clean surface.
  • Sit or lie down comfortably.
  • Clean the injection site on your lower abdominal area (below the belly button) with an alcohol pad and allow it to air-dry.
  • Carefully remove the cap from the needle.
  • Pinch an area at the injection site.
  • With a dart like motion, insert the needle at a 45 to 90 degree angle into the injection site. Push the plunger in slowly until all the medicine is injected.
  • Gently withdraw the needle; discard it properly into your biohazard/safety container.
  • Apply gentle pressure to the injection site with a second alcohol swab.
You will be given a specific time to administer the Ovidrel or Lupron trigger. Once again, it is very important that you take the Ovidrel or Lupron at the exact time we instruct you. Please plan your schedule accordingly. You are due in the office the following morning for final monitoring and written instructions for the retrieval procedure.
